MIDLAND, Texas – (May 31, 2022) – Adolfson & Peterson Construction (AP), a top national construction management firm and general contractor, broke ground this week on an expansion of the Midland College (MC) campus, which will enlarge its existing Pre-K Academy. This 60,000-square-foot, two-story structure will house its growing education program including a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood-3rd grade teacher preparation.
The new expansion will increase the current Pre-K Academy partnership between MC and MISD from 68 seats to 288 seats, fulfilling a dire need in the community for quality pre-k education. It has an anticipated building completion date of fall 2023.
“The Midland College Pre-K Academy and Center for Teaching Excellence addresses two major challenges facing our community—a shortage of quality early childhood opportunities and a shortage of teachers,” MC President Dr. Steve Thomas said. “This project is evidence of Midland College’s commitment to providing education and training that help our community grow and prosper.”
Fundraising for the building is 90 percent complete with top gifts of $10 million each from Permian Strategic Partnership and the Scharbauer Foundation, Inc. The project architect/engineering firm for this project is Parkhill.
“It isn’t every day that we have the opportunity to make an impact on the future of America,” said Lucas Hubbard, AP Project Executive. “It is a treat to break ground on a project that will ultimately guide the teachers who will enrich the lives of children every day in the classroom. It is a calling to instruct children and our team is proud to build an incredible facility for them.”
Notable AP Gulf States projects include PGA of America’s new headquarters in Frisco; VariSpace Coppell and Vari’s headquarters in Coppell; the Arlington ISD Arts and Athletics Complex in Arlington; several education facilities for the University of Texas and Fort Worth ISD; and Park Cities Presbyterian Church in Dallas. In addition, AP’s Midland-based West Texas office is currently working on Potter County’s District Courts Building in Amarillo, while the Central Texas office is working with Northside ISD on several projects.
