Adolfson & Peterson Construction’s Second Annual Chili Cookoff Sets Regional Record

AP Southwest donates $11,000 to benefit Gigi’s Playhouse Phoenix

Phoenix, AZ – (November 8, 2024) – Adolfson & Peterson Construction (AP), a national, family-owned construction management and contracting company, today announced a regional record donation for AP Southwest’s Second Annual Chili Cookoff beneficiary – Gigi’s Playhouse Phoenix. The event was held on Friday, November 8 and hosted over 80 people from more than 30 companies including local trade partners, architecture firms, and industry professionals.

The competition featured 17 different chilis entered by 14 companies that brought the heat throughout the competition to be awarded Best Overall, Most Unique, Spiciest, and the coveted People’s Choice. Paired with over $3,000 in donated raffle prizes, including a visit from the DeWalt Nascar, and generous sponsorships from our partners, $11,000 in proceeds was collected exceeding last year’s donation.

“Our Second Annual Chili Cookoff was an overwhelming success,” said Mark Mitchell, Vice President and General Manager.  “We want to thank all the chili entrants, raffle donors, and industry partners in raising funds for Gigi’s Playhouse. Not only is AP able to further the impact we have in our own backyard, but we also have the privilege of connecting with the contractor community and trade partners across the Valley.”

All proceeds went to Gigi’s Playhouse Phoenix, a local organization that provides free therapeutic and educational programs for individuals with Down syndrome. These funds will support a variety of different elements, including their Amina Grace Speech Therapy Program. “[The] program is free of charge to our participants [and] focuses on fostering social connections, speech development, and self-confidence in a fun, engaging environment,” says Sarah Hale, SLP, Speech Program Director at Gigi’s Playhouse.

Several members of the Gigi’s Playhouse team also made an appearance, including Fletcher Jones and Ashley Camacho, two of the adult participants from the organization who served as tasting judges and raffle drawers for the cookoff. Robin Lea-Amos, Executive Director of Gigi’s Playhouse, said of the event “I am not sure how to put into words what an amazing event Friday was for us. I truly walked away filled up to the brim with happiness and joy.”
